A Cento

the acknowledgement of inevitability
at the most unexpected moments

shoulders can’t carry its load unless
fixed in our favor, not death’s

too dark to tell if my eyes are still open
skeletal limbs scrape closer

the humming of breath & blood
memories i burn alive

for what we’ve lost in death
lower the lid and know never to love
